  14.       (TUCSON, Ariz. -- December 23, 1991) -- Artisoft, the leader
  15. in peer-to-peer technology with its LANtastic« Local Area Network,
  16. has begun shipping its LANtastic for NetWare software which
  17. provides Novell«  NetWare« users with the LANtastic network's
  18. peer-to-peer features. It also allows Novell network users to
  19. expand their network without purchasing an expensive NetWare
  20. upgrade and acts as a valuable backup network that keeps operating
  21. when the NetWare server is down or being serviced. The LANtastic
  22. for NetWare software sells for $499 and supports up to 300 users.

  24.       Artisoft's LANtastic for NetWare network runs on top of
  25. Novell's NetBIOS emulation and requires Novell's NetBIOS to
  26. operate. It allows Novell NetWare network users to share their
  27. local hardware and software resources with others on the network
  28. while maintaining connection to the dedicated Novell server.
  29. Individuals, corporate workgroups and even large departments will
  30. be able to overlay NetWare's centralized structure and
  31. administration to easily permit localized control of and access to
  32. programs, data, printers, hard drives, CD-ROMs and other shared
  33. resources.

  35.       The LANtastic for NetWare software also allows Novell users to
  36. add PCs to the network beyond the limitations of their NetWare
  37. version, eliminating the immediate need for an expensive NetWare
  38. upgrade. Although the number of users accessing the NetWare server
  39. at any one time would still be determined by the specific NetWare
  40. version's limitations, users could be added to the LANtastic for
  41. NetWare network simply by installing network adapters and cabling.
  42. This gives Novell network users a cost-effective way to add network
  43. users and upgrade to a larger-user version of NetWare if and when
  44. they need to, and when they can afford it.

  46.       The LANtastic for NetWare network can also serve as a backup
  47. when the NetWare server of network goes down or is being serviced.
  48. Because it will not go down when the NetWare network is down, it
  49. can function as a safety net, maintaining vital network-dependent
  50. business and departmental operations as well as increasing employee
  51. productivity through less down time.

  54. easy-to-use solution for Novell users wanting the features,
  55. peripheral-sharing and flexibility of a peer-to-peer network," said

  61.       The LANtastic for NetWare e-mail feature will even allow
  62. NetWare users to add voice mail capabilities across the network by
  63. adding Artisoft's Sounding BoardTM adapters to network PCs. The
  64. Sounding Board adapter is a low-cost, IBM«-compatible expansion
  65. adapter with a telephone-style handset that converts between
  66. audio/voice signals and a digital data stream. When used with the
  67. LANtastic network, it provides voice mail and voice chat
  68. capabilities across the network. The Sounding Board adapters are
  69. priced at $99 for ISA bus and $199 for Micro Channel.
